It’s odd where the web will take you some days. Just today I was doing some regular old emailing and noticed an ad that said “P-51 for Sale.” I logged out and typed the same tag in google and found myself on this page. “Cool,” I thought.
But the real story here has to do with an accident I read about on the main page, of two P-51s colliding at an air show in Wisconsin. A link describing the crash that killed one pilot (Gerry Beck) is at the web site’s forum.
Further reading in the forum reveals several photos of the actual event at Flickr. News stories of the event are here and here. Another has the video of the collision here. Please consider the very reasoned preface before the footage reported by Jim Campbell of the Aero News Network.

Saw this over at the War Movie Blog dated June 13. I’m a little behind the scoop here, I know. But it is an info update on the long awaited follow up to the wildly popular Band of Brothers mini-series.
Looks like filming is set for August and release sometime in August 2009. Bummer on the 2009 part. More on the series here from an article in April.

Imagine getting a knock on the door and a devliery man says he has a package for you. “Okay,” you think. But here’s the kicker. The package is a little late…60 years or so. The word is that the package was opened and it turns out that it “contained a black-and-white photo rolled tightly in a cigar-sized mailer. It bore an orange six-cent stamp and a postmark of May 5, 1946. The photo inside shows the USS Wichita in Nagasaki Harbor.”
Now there’s a find. See the full article here as well as the photo.
